Private Cycling Class
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Q1. Level Selection
- Beginner Content: Suitable for those who have never touched a bicycle, still require training wheels, or cannot independently start and balance a two-wheeled bike.
- Technical Content: Suitable for those who have mastered two-wheeled balance but wish to further learn precise cornering, effective braking, correct gear shifting, and road handling skills.
Instructor’s Suggestion: Private classes have no rigid level restrictions. INVIS instructors will observe your performance on-site. If your progress exceeds expectations, they will immediately adjust the teaching focus or transition to advanced content, ensuring every minute fits your pace.
Q2. Is there a guarantee that I will learn how to ride?
- Individual Differences:
Beginner progress varies from learner to learner.
Some learners are able to find balance in their very first lesson,
while others may need to attend several sessions before balancing independently. - Learning Progress:
On average, more than 50% of learners are able to balance
and ride a two‑wheel bicycle independently within
three lessons (each lesson lasts 1.5 hours). - High Success Rate:
Most remaining learners achieve balance within no more than
six lessons.
Overall, more than 90% of learners are able to ride independently
within six lessons. - Key Advice:
Learning outcomes depend on the individual.
Children do not always learn faster, and adults are not necessarily slower.
The most important step is taking the first step—signing up and getting started.
Q3. How many lessons does it usually take to learn?

Some learners are able to achieve balance in their very first lesson,
while others may need to attend multiple sessions before balancing independently. - Learning Progress:

Children do not always learn faster, and adults are not necessarily slower.
There is no absolute guarantee—but taking the first step and getting started is the most important part of the learning journey.
Q4. Can adults enrol? Will it be difficult to learn?
Absolutely—yes! This is one of the most common questions we receive.
INVIS has extensive experience teaching adults, and has helped countless adult learners
overcome fear and learn to ride with confidence.
- Common Reasons Adults Learn to Ride:
- Social Activities:
Friends plan cycling trips to places like Tai Mei Tuk or Sunny Bay,
and you don’t want to be the only one walking or riding in a vehicle instead. - Travel Experiences:
Cycling adventures in Japan (such as island cycling routes),
Taiwan, or Europe—discovering scenery at a completely different pace. - Family & Parent‑Child Activities:
After becoming a parent, many discover that while their children are learning to ride,
they want to ride together—only to realise they never learned themselves.
- Social Activities:
- Why Adults Learn Successfully:
Adults generally have stronger understanding and awareness.
Our coaches explain techniques using clear balance and physics principles.
Once the mental barrier is overcome, adults are fully capable of learning to ride.
Q5. Can learners with SEN or special educational needs enrol?
- Enrollment Recommendation:
As learners with Special Educational Needs (SEN) may require more focused guidance
for understanding instructions or motor coordination,
and to ensure effective learning and safety,
SEN learners are required to enrol in a Private Class. - Mandatory Disclosure:
Parents or guardians must clearly declare any special learning needs
of the learner at the time of enrolment. - Professional Arrangement:
Through one‑to‑one Private Classes, coaches are able to adjust teaching pace
Q6. Do parents need to be present during the lesson?
Parents are welcome to observe the lesson on site, provided the following guidelines are strictly followed:
- Coaching Authority:
Parents should understand and accept that all care, instruction, and guidance during training are the responsibility of the coach.
Parents must fully entrust the teaching to INVIS and refrain from giving any instructions during the lesson. - Avoid Conflicting Instructions (Most Important):
Any communication from parents at the sidelines—even positive encouragement—may affect the learner.
For example: a parent may say “slow down” out of safety concern,
while the coach may be asking the learner to “speed up” to maintain balance.
Such conflicting instructions can confuse the learner and may directly increase the risk of accidents. - Remain Calm and Composed:
Parents are role models for their children.
Even if feeling nervous, excited, or emotional about the learner’s performance,
parents should remain calm at all times.
Unless specifically requested by the coach, parents should not participate in the training. - Post‑Lesson Communication:
If parents have any questions or concerns during the lesson,
they should wait until the session has ended to speak with the coach.
Coaches are always happy to communicate with parents before or after the lesson.
Q7. Does the course include a bicycle and helmet? Do I need to bring my own equipment?
Everything is provided!
Whether you enrol in a Private Class equipment arrangements are as follows:
- Included in the course fee:

bicycle, helmet, and protective gear

and are fully qualified to provide structured and safe cycling instruction. - Instructor Training Provider:
INVIS is also a professional instructor training provider.
In addition to teaching learners, we train cycling coaches within the industry,
ensuring our teaching standards remain at the forefront of professional practice.
Q9. How many learners are there in each class? Can I choose a specific coach/instructor?
- Recommended Coaching Ratio: The number of participants for private classes is decided by the students. To maintain coaching quality, the following ratios are recommended:
- Beginner Level: Recommended 1:1 to 1:3
- Other Levels: Recommended 1:1 to 1:4
- Maximum Limit: The actual maximum number of participants depends on the students’ skill level.

- Requesting Specific Coaches: For private classes, you can request a specific coach or instructor. However, an additional “Specific Coach Surcharge” will apply (starting from HK$500, depending on the coach’s experience).
Q10. Are classes held indoors or outdoors?
- Indoor Venue: The INVIS Shatin Cycling Training Centre HQ features an indoor training space. Beginner classes usually start indoors, providing a safe and weather-proof environment for students to focus on mastering their balance.
- Progress Transition: Depending on the student’s progress, instructors may arrange outdoor practice sessions at the Adventure Cycling Park located right across from our centre.
- Private Class Arrangements: Private classes offer more flexibility in venue selection. Besides the Shatin HQ, sessions can be arranged at other designated locations, though other locations are typically outdoors.
Q11. Can lessons be held at locations outside of Sha Tin?
Private Class Arrangement:
Yes, private classes offer greater flexibility in venue selection.
In addition to our Sha Tin headquarters,
lessons may also be arranged at other legally permitted cycling locations
such as Cyberport, West Kowloon, Tseung Kwan O, Tsuen Wan,
Yuen Long, Tuen Mun, and other suitable areas.
Booking Limitations:
Lessons conducted outside the Sha Tin headquarters are
generally available on weekdays only
and must be scheduled in advance with the coach
to confirm time availability.
Q12. Can I earn Asia Miles by enrolling in a course?
Miles can be earned by enrolling in designated courses.
However, all mileage rewards are subject to the relevant terms and conditions.
Please note that mileage rewards are credited to the participant only and are non‑transferable.
Mileage cannot be earned on behalf of another person—for example, parents may not use their own Cathay membership account to earn miles for a child’s course.
All required information, including the Cathay membership number and registered name, must be provided proactively before the lesson for registration purposes.
If the required details are not submitted prior to the lesson, mileage rewards will not be credited retroactively.
Q13. Do you offer trial lessons?
- Single Lesson as a Trial:
INVIS does not offer free trial lessons or trial discounts.
As some learners may achieve two‑wheel balance in their very first lesson,
you may enrol in a single lesson as a trial. - Flexible Upgrade Option:
After the first lesson, if you wish to continue developing your riding skills,
you may purchase a 4‑lesson discounted package.
Please note that the fee paid for the first standalone lesson
cannot be deducted from or retroactively applied to the package discount.
Q14. Do I need to enrol in multiple lessons at once? Can I sign up one lesson at a time?
- Enrollment Options:
Yes. Learners may enrol in a single lesson for flexible scheduling. - Package Offer:
A 10% discount is available when enrolling in a 4‑lesson package. - Package Validity:
Discounted lesson packages must be fully used within three months.
As class slots are limited, learners are advised to contact us via WhatsApp
and confirm all lesson dates at the time of payment to avoid availability issues. - Class Grouping:
As the participant type (adult or child) for each time slot is determined by the
first learner who books, daily class arrangements may vary.
Early booking is therefore recommended.
Q15. Can I reschedule my lesson after enrolling?
- Limited Availability: Since slots for private sessions are highly limited, please confirm your schedule before booking.
- Rescheduling Fee: For all confirmed bookings, any change of date or time slot will incur an administrative fee (including rescheduling requests due to illness).
- Fee Schedule: The fee for each change is calculated based on the notice period as follows:
- More than 7 days’ notice: HK$150 per change
- 7 days or less notice: HK$250 per change
- Friendly Reminder: We recommend confirming your itinerary early. If you need to make changes, please contact INVIS as soon as possible so we can release the slot to other students.
Q16. Can I attend weekend classes at the weekday rate?
- Weekday to Weekend:
If you have enrolled in a weekday lesson and wish to attend a weekend session instead,
you may upgrade by paying the price difference
and a rescheduling administrative fee (from HK$150),
subject to availability. - Weekend to Weekday:
If a weekend‑priced lesson is later rescheduled to a weekday time slot,
the price difference will not be refunded.
Q17. Is it possible that I may not be able to secure class slots within the validity period?
(Note: If a group class is already scheduled for a specific time slot, a private session cannot be arranged, and vice versa.)
Q18. What happens in the event of adverse weather or rain?
Cancellation Decision:
If lessons cannot proceed due to adverse weather conditions,
the coach will make a cancellation decision
at least 1.5 hours before the scheduled lesson time.
Make‑Up Lesson Arrangement:
If a lesson is cancelled by INVIS,
learners may arrange a make‑up lesson
within three months from the cancellation date.
As adverse weather may affect many learners at the same time,
learners are advised to
contact us proactively via WhatsApp or phone
to confirm lesson status and follow‑up arrangements,
so as to avoid any missed communication.
